As someone who struggled with nail-biting her whole life (and let's be real, still does when stress or anxiety creeps up), I tried everything, from biting deterrent polishes that left me with gnawed nails and a bad taste in my mouth, to normal nail polish (that always smudged because I was too impatient to wait for it to air dry), to even sticking bandaids/plasters over my fingertips.
Then I discovered gel polish systems. It was the school holidays, I was on a shopping spree with my besties, we’d done some serious damage to our bank accounts, and were looking for somewhere to rest from all the heavy lifting. The nail salon, epic. I’d never been before. As soon as I sat in the pedicure massage chair, I was hooked. I walked out of that salon feeling (and looking) like a million bucks. Over the first few days, out of habit, I tried to nibble my nails, but stopped because I didn’t want to ruin my manicure. After a week, the impulse to bite was weaker, but still there. Two weeks later I discovered my nails were long enough to tap on surfaces - naturally, I pretended I was an expert drummer. Two and a half weeks later and I was a new, non-nail-biting woman.Three weeks later I was back in that chair, this time with questions: What is this polish? Why does it need the lamp? How does it last so long? I was pumped, finally, something that worked. My nails grew stronger, longer, and healthier. But those salon prices? They weren't sustainable.
For a few years, I continued to visit the salon on and off, getting fresh manicures for special occasions and holidays, or if I just needed a little extra self-care. Then one day, I fell in love. I fell in love with an epic man, who just so happened to be the owner of Epic Nail. He gifted me one of his Gel Manicure Kits, and with that, I said bye-bye to all salons (and bye-bye to all other boys 😉)
When I took over Epic Nail in 2024, it wasn't just about business. It was personal.
I was on the path to total destruction of my natural nails. Until I started doing my own nails, I didn’t understand or appreciate how important it is to care for your natural nails properly. If you visit a salon, you trust the nail artist to do right by your nails. But how do you know their practices are correct, or even hygienic? We all know someone who left their salon visit with an infection or cut.
I want to empower you to learn a new skill, educate yourself, be creative, and have a blast while doing it. Whether you're fighting nail-biting like I did, or just want epic, lasting nails without the salon price tag – we've got you covered.
